OpenMontage turns your coding agent into a video studio

GitHub trending crowned a new repo today, and it's not another skill pack. OpenMontage shot up +3,590 stars in a single day to land at number one, and what it does is wild: it turns Claude Code or any coding agent into a full video production studio. You describe a video in plain English, the agent does the research, writes the script, generates or pulls footage, edits, and renders. End to end.

The numbers show how ambitious this is. 12 pipelines covering everything from animated explainers to cinematic trailers to talking-head videos to podcast repurposing. 52 tools wired up across 14 video providers (Kling, Runway, local GPU models), 10 image generators, text-to-speech, music, and FFmpeg post. And 500+ agent skills, which are markdown files that teach the agent actual production craft, not just how to call a tool.

Here's why this matters beyond the demo. We've watched agent skills eat one knowledge domain after another: coding, legal, cybersecurity. Video production was supposed to be the creative moat, the thing you needed taste and a timeline editor for. OpenMontage's bet is that taste can be written down as skills too, and the agent can be the editor. Whether the output is actually any good is the open question, but the architecture is the statement.

It's open source under AGPLv3, which means commercial users have to think hard before building on it. Repo is at github.com/calesthio/OpenMontage. If you make videos for a living, this is the one to go poke at this week.
